Supervision for Music Educators and Community Musicians

I offer both individual and group supervision for music educators and community musicians working across schools, private teaching, community settings and inclusive practice.

What is supervision?

Supervision is a reflective, supportive space for practitioners to think openly about their work with an experienced educator and researcher. It offers time to explore challenges, reflect on relationships, develop confidence, and consider professional growth in a way that is collaborative, grounded and person-centred.

Supervision is available both as one-to-one support and in small reflective groups. Group supervision often brings the added value of shared experience, collective reflection and the reassurance of not working in isolation.

Individual sessions can be helpful where more focused time is needed for specific situations or questions.

Teaching and facilitating music is deeply rewarding, but it can also feel isolating at times. Whether you are navigating challenges with a student or participant, working through complex conversations with parents, carers or organisations, reflecting on your own development, or simply needing space to think, it is not always easy to know where that support exists.

In professions such as psychotherapy, regular supervision is a standard part of practice. It provides a confidential space to reflect on experience, explore challenges and receive professional guidance. Music educators and community musicians often work within similarly complex relational spaces, but without the same structured support.

Supervision creates that space.

My approach draws on extensive experience in teaching, research, inclusive practice and academic supervision. Sessions are shaped around the needs of each individual or group, creating a flexible and evolving framework that supports both professional reflection and personal development over time.

At its heart, supervision is about feeling supported in your work, making space to think well, and staying connected to why you do what you do.
